Cull vs. Selects vs. Create: What's the Difference?
Spingle V2 offers three main actions after analyzing (Clean) your sequence. Understanding their purpose and output is key:
Cull (Stable Feature)
Cull (Stable Feature)Goal: Quickly filter out unusable shaky footage based only on camera motion (jerks, wobble).
Based On: Camera motion analysis.
User Input: (Optional) Adjust Cleanliness Threshold %. (Optional) Use the Track Selector in Settings to specify which video tracks you want Spingle to analyze and cull (e.g., only cull V1 and V3, ignoring V2).
Output: Creates a new sequence (e.g.,
YourSequenceName_spingle_cull_1).Multi-Track Handling: Spingle intelligently handles sequences with footage on multiple tracks.
For each track selected for culling (e.g., V1, V2), Spingle keeps the stable segments on that original track.
It then creates a new track directly above the original track (e.g., V2 above V1, V3 above V2) and places the corresponding flagged shaky segments onto that new upper track. This keeps your original track structure relatively intact while separating the culled footage.

Track Selector Setting for Culling
Best For: Initial cleanup of obvious camera mistakes across one or multiple video tracks.
Selects
SelectsGoal: Intelligently find and isolate specific usable moments based on your detailed prompt.
Based On: Your detailed prompt criteria (quality, content, motion, emotion, context, etc.) using advanced computer vision. Currently analyzes footage primarily from Track V1.
User Input: Requires a detailed text prompt.
Output: Creates a new sequence (e.g.,
YourSequenceName_spingle_selects_1).Track 1 (V1): Your original sequence footage (from V1) untouched.Track 2 (V2): Only the refined, usable clips matching your prompt, precisely cut from the original V1 footage.
Best For: Pulling targeted B-roll, finding specific actions/emotions, precise shot filtering from your main footage track. See the Crafting Effective Prompts (Prompting Guide)
Multi-Track Note for AI Selects: In the current, AI Selects primarily analyzes footage on Track V1 & Audo on A1 for making selections. Multi-track analysis for AI Selects is planned for future updates.
Create
CreateGoal: Generate quick, experimental rough cut ideas.
Based On: Your broader prompt describing a desired sequence style or theme. Focuses more on creative assembly than precise selection. Currently analyzes footage primarily from Track V1.
User Input: Requires a text prompt (can be less detailed than
Selects).Output: Creates a brand new sequence (e.g.,
YourSequenceName_spingle_prompt_1) containing only the AI-assembled clips (primarily from V1). Does not use the Track 1 / Track 2 method.Important Note on Speed: The Create operation takes noticeably longer than the Selects operation. This is because the AI must perform deep reasoning, compare shots (e.g., wide vs. tight), evaluate continuity, and logically assemble a full story.
Best For: Rapid ideation, brainstorming social media reels, getting sequence inspiration.
Remember, Create is experimental, and results can be highly variable. For reliable, precise shot finding, use Selects.
Workflow for Large vs. Small Timelines
When deciding between Selects and Create, consider the length of your sequence:
Massive Sequences (1.5 to 3 hours): Recommend running Selects first to filter out the redundant footage. Then, take that condensed sequence and run Create to build a rough cut. This saves the AI's context window for better results.
Smaller Sequences (Under 1 hour): You can skip the filtering step and jump straight into Create for rough cuts.
